What’s on in July: Resident Organisation Round Up
Check out the latest events and opportunities from the wide range of writing and arts organisations inside The Wheeler Centre.
As the centre for Books, Writing and Ideas, we are host to some fantastic arts and culture organisations.
Within The Wheeler Centre building lies Australian Poetry, Blak & Bright, Melbourne City of Literature Office, Emerging Writers’ Festival, Express Media, Freeplay Independent Games Festival, Melbourne Writers Festival, PEN Melbourne, the Small Press Network and Writers Victoria. Beneath The Wheeler Centre you can enjoy a European culinary escape at Italian inspired restaurant The Moat.

The Melbourne City of Literature Office
The 2024 Walking the City of Literature map is officially out! This map is a guide to some of Melbourne’s local independent bookshops within the CBD and surrounding areas, illustrated by wonderful artists Gracia and Louise. You can pick up a copy from the Wheeler Centre (176 Little Lonsdale Street, Melbourne), the City of Melbourne Visitors Centre, City of Melbourne libraries or select bookshops.
Emerging Writers Festival
The Richell Prize for Emerging Writers closes in less than one week! Send Emerging Writers’ Festival your first three chapters for your chance at $10k and a year-long publishing mentorship with Hachette Australia. Submissions close 7 July, 11:59PM AEST. Learn more here.
Express Media
Voiceworks is now open for submissions to Issue #133, themed ‘Loaf’. Submit your your freshest and tastiest writing and art by heading to the Voiceworks website for submission guidelines.
Nonfiction pitches due 11:59PM Sunday 21 July Fiction, completed nonfiction and poetry due 11:59PM Sunday 28 July Art, comics and comic pitches due 11:59PM Sunday 18 August.
The Moat
Mulled wine is back on the menu at The Moat! Warm up this winter with a cup of steaming, spiced mulled wine, for only $10 during Happy Hour. During Happy Hour you can also sip on beers from just $7, wines starting at $8 and $14 cocktails. Enjoy these cosy offerings from 4-6pm Tuesday to Saturday at The Moat.
