Dr Susan Carland is a sociologist of religion in the School of Social Sciences at Monash University. A DECRA fellow & Churchill fellow, she researches the intersection between gender, Islamophobia, sexism, and social cohesion.  Her first book was “Fighting Hislam: women, faith, and sexism”. She has spoken about her research to the UN in Geneva, Chatham House in London, to DFAT, and on multiple Australian television, radio, print, and podcast outlets. She sits on the boards of the Islamophobia Register Australia and the Victorian State Government’s Anti-Racism Taskforce. She has been named on the “500 Most Influential Muslims in the World” list, as a “Muslim Leader of Tomorrow” by the UN Alliance of Civilisations, and on The Age’s “20 Most Influential Australian Female Voices”. Susan hosts the multi award-winning podcast What Happens Next, was host of the television show, Child Genius, and is a certified scuba diver.
