Andrew Schultz

About

Andrew Schultz has held many awards and commissions – including from all the major Australian orchestras. Major works include three symphonies, Journey to Horseshoe BendMaaliEndling, Paradise and Violin Concerto. Recent works include Bassoon and Piano Concertos and he is currently working on his Fourth Symphony. He is Emeritus Professor of Music at UNSW Sydney and previously Head of Composition at the Guildhall School of Music & Drama London and Gough Whitlam and Malcolm Fraser Visiting Professor of Australian Studies, Harvard University.

The Children’s Bach (2008) is Andrew’s third opera and sets a libretto by Glenn Perry based on Helen Garner’s novel. It was commissioned by Chamber Made Opera with support from an Australia Council Fellowship and a Residency at the Banff Centre for Creativity, Canada. The opera had its premiere season in Melbourne with Chamber Made and subsequently a production and CD recording by the Canberra International Music Festival.
