Peter Doherty: An Insider’s Plague Year

‘I’ve worked on aspects of infection and immunity for almost six decades, I am an insider.’
With a lengthy and highly-awarded career in research and medicine, including the 1996 Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine for his work in immunology research, Peter Doherty knows infectious diseases like no other. Throughout 2020, as the world grappled with the impact of COVID-19, he and his team were at the forefront of Australia’s scientific response to the pandemic.
In his new book, An Insider’s Plague Year, Doherty shares an illuminating glimpse behind the scenes of the fights against the virus, coupling memoir with keen scientific insight. In this special Fifth Estate conversation with host Sally Warhaft, Doherty will discuss the role of medical research and public health policy during a pandemic, and where the future of science and medicine will take us.
The bookseller for this event is The Paperback Bookshop.
