Nouria Salehi on Basic Health and Education in Afghanistan
Dr Nouria Salehi OAM is executive director of the Afghan Australian Development Organisation. A voluntary, non-profit, non-government, member organisation, its primary purpose is to implement projects that assist in the reconstruction and sustainable development of communities within Afghanistan. It also works to support the Afghan community in Australia.
With many successes in the last ten years, Nouria argues that the organisation’s model manages to deliver virtually 100% of its financial resources to its development projects – making major gains, particularly in education, whilst respecting Afghan culture and traditions.
Nouria was Victorian Senior Australian of the Year 2012 and has been awarded an Order of Australia medal.

Sometimes there’s nothing better than a good rant. Every Thursday, the Wheeler Centre hosts an old-fashioned Speakers’ Corner in the middle of the city, where writers and thinkers can have their say on the topics that won’t let them sleep at night.
Featuring some of our most compelling voices across just about every sector of human endeavour you can imagine, the themes dominating Lunchbox/Soapbox are proudly idiosyncratic. BYO lunch. Ideas provided.
