Jane Martin: Obesity at Large
Having worked in tobacco control for 20 years, Jane Martin saw that the processed food and advertising industry were targeting children using similar marketing techniques. She is now using her experiences of fighting big tobacco to fight big food through the Obesity Policy Coalition.
Jane outlines the obesity issues confronting Australia and other places (like the US and the UK) and the sorts of policy and regulatory reforms that might help combat them.
Lunchbox/Soapbox
Sometimes there’s nothing better than a good rant. Every Thursday, the Wheeler Centre hosts an old-fashioned Speakers’ Corner in the middle of the city, where writers and thinkers can have their say on the topics that won’t let them sleep at night.
Featuring some of our most compelling voices across just about every sector of human endeavour you can imagine, the themes dominating Lunchbox/Soapbox are proudly idiosyncratic. BYO lunch. Ideas provided.
