About the Event
Australia is a proudly multifaith country and one in which religious diversity is steadily increasing. But it is also a place where religious discrimination, racism and cultural prejudice cast a long shadow. In recent months, rising social tensions have resulted in increasing instances of Islamophobia, antisemitism and other forms of discrimination.
In this insightful panel discussion, expert thinkers come together to discuss the realities of discrimination in contemporary Australia and explore pathways towards greater tolerance and social cohesion.
The panel features sociologist of religion and author of Fighting Hislam: women, faith, and sexism, Dr Susan Carland; historian and Director of the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation, Associate Professor David Slucki; and will be hosted by human rights advocate, lawyer and CEO of Media Diversity Australia, Mariam Veiszadeh.
Presented in partnership with the School of Social Sciences – Monash University and the Australian Centre for Jewish Civilisation.
