Disinformation and Democracy: Why we need to fix the news

When

Event Status

To mark the official launch of the Constructive Institute Asia Pacific based within Monash University Faculty of Arts, Inaugural Director Professor Stan Grant and media experts interrogate the complexities of our global news culture and discuss how fixing the news can embolden democracy.

About the Event

Today’s media landscape is rapidly evolving, enduring constant battles of misinformation, disinformation, sensationalism and negativity bias. This urgent discussion asks: can more solutions-focused and connected journalism nurture healthier democracies?

Walkey Award-winning writer and presenter, Professor Stan Grant and CEO of Denmark’s Constructive Institute, Ulrik Haagerup will officially launch the Constructive Institute Asia Pacific and its central mission to transform global news culture. Together with host Jan Fran, they will weigh in on solutions to the media crisis. They’ll share insights on how transforming the media landscape through constructive journalism can reshape public discourse to prevent half-truths and polarised narratives, and provide a fuller understanding of our world.

Based within Monash University’s Faculty of Arts, Professor Grant will amplify the Constructive Institute’s central mission to change global news culture in the Asia Pacific region, leading projects and debates that embrace global solutions, nuance and dialogue to newsroom cultures.
