Now, following months of successive interest rate rises and the ballooning cost of living, many economists and commentators believe we’ve reached a tipping point. Following the release of the state and federal budgets for 2024-25, four experts came together to explore this pressing issue.

In this event at The Wheeler Centre, veteran financial journalist Alan Kohler, the Age property reporter Jim Malo and TikTok phenomenon Jordan van den Berg (aka Purple Pingers) addressed the lay of the land when it comes to housing with host, academic and broadcaster Dr Priya Kunjan.

What do economic models and interpretations tell us about how we got here, and what comes next? How can traditional and social media amplify and address the crisis? And what feasible solutions are there for renters and people experiencing housing insecurity – both in the immediate and longer term?

Together, we can change the conversation.
